The admission policy of a public school is determined by the governing body of the school in terms of
section 5(5) of the South African Schools Act, 1996 (No. 84 of 1996). The policy must be consistent with
the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 (No. 108 of 1996), the South African Schools Act,
1996 and applicable provincial law. The governing body of a public school must make a copy of the
school’s admission policy available to the Head of Department.
