LEARNER DISCIPLINE AND CORRECTIVE ACTION

The general violence and increase in gang activity in the surrounding community affects the community in a negative way. It is thus not surprising that the trauma of bad news, constant violence, learners witnessing and hearing about gang activity come to school in a heightened state of emotion. Their emotional state is reflected in the way some learners often relate to each other. In certain instances their interaction is negative.

Over the past few weeks the discipline committee had to take the unilateral decision to suspend learners who have continually violated the learner code of conduct. On a positive note it must be noted that the vast majority of the learners behave and interact in a positive manner amidst the societal challenges. We encourage our boys and girls to keep up with this positive mind set.

ANTI BULLYING CAMPAIGN

We need volunteer parents who would make themselves available during the course of the day to assist in the anti bullying campaign. Especially during intervals when learners interact with each other. Parents who wish to be part of a solutions driven approach are encouraged to make contact with the respective teachers and make themselves available to be part of our anti-bullying drive.

FORMAL ASSESSMENTS

The upcoming week marks the beginning of the formal assessments and tests towards the term 1 reports. Our learners must at this point not remain at home unnecessarily and ensure that they adequately prepare for exams. Parents should check the assessment program issued to them at the beginning of the term. If you have not received a copy of the assessment program, message teachers and inquire to receive an updated copy as a matter of urgency. Our learners must get to bed early and prepare for tests, please assist in this regard.

CLIVE JACOBS – INTERVENTION PROGRAMME

Mr Clive Jacobs, a community activist and mediating officer  has partnered with Delta Primary School as part of a boy-child intervention program. We have witnessed with regret how so many of the boys at our school plummet under the societal pressures of gangsterism, drug abuse and general bad life choices. Mr. Clive Jacobs has seen the need and has volunteered his time to enrol and gather some of these wayward boys in an attempt to put them through a program, so as to assist the boys to make better life choices.

WAVES FOR CHANGE

The waves for change is a well known intervention program focused on boys. This year the program has come to Delta Primary School. The program aims to change the mindset of the boy-child who has experienced trauma and disappointment in their lives. The backdrop of Muizenberg is the space the NGO uses to address the challenges these children have experienced.

WP COLOURS

Our very own Mia Japhta has attained WP colours in Athletics. She competed at Greenpoint Stadium on 27 February 2025. Mia`s family and the school is extremely proud of her achievement and wish her well on this journey of sports excellence.

EFT AND FINANCE RELATED MATTERS

Dear parents, the cost of handling physical monies has increased exponentially over the past number of years. The school has always been very cognisant of the reality of our community and how parents interact in terms of financial transactions at school. We are recommending where possible that our parents move towards the use of EFT payments directly into the school account and then to produce the proof of payment to the teacher or the school secretary. It is very important that we use the child’s name as the reference on the POP.

Keep in mind that the school can only confirm digital payments after the money is reflected in the school account. IMMEDIATE PAYMENTS FROM ACCOUNTS CAN OFFSET THE WAITING PERIOD. EFT payments can be made for any of the following transactions

  1. Collecting lists
  2. School uniform
  3. Class outings

It would certainly not be cost effective to complete an EFT for civvies day as it is simply impractical unless it is for multiple learners attending the school. PLEASE GIVE THIS RECOMMENDATION SOME SERIOUS CONSIDERATION.

METRO KIDS – ANTI BULLYING CAMPAIGN

On Tuesday the 18 February 2025 Delta Primary hosted Metro Kids  as part of an anti-bullying campaign.

Bullying, by its nature, is a systemic societal and community challenge that negatively impacts the school as well as disrupts the harmonious environment teachers are attempting to create in their classes and on the playground. It would be a utopia if all learners enrolled at our school were in possession of the necessary social skills and manners to interact in a kind and considerate manner. Regrettably far too many children have been exposed to violence and a display of poor behaviour within their community and often within their homes.

The school receives these learners as part of its mandate to allow equal access to education in terms of our constitution, but simultaneously are required to address the dysfunctionality within society. Thus, without parents involvement and intervention the school is obliged to find ways and means to manage the reality of bullying within school.Parents who wish to be part of a solutions driven approach are encouraged to make contact with the respective teachers and make themselves available to be part of our anti-bullying drive.
