We welcome Mrs. Francis and Mr. Baderoen who respectively have taken charge of the grade 4 and 5 class. We wish these teachers well in their new role.

MANDELA DAY CELEBRATIONS

Dear parents, we celebrated Mandela Day on the 18 July 2024. As part of our celebration, we have resolved to reach out to two senior citizen homes in our community. Namely, Dougla Murray and Montagu Senior home. As a school community we intend to make a collection of non-perishable items by Friday 2 August 2024. In order to manage this process we have divided the class groups as follows.

Donations per grade

Grade R-1 (baked beans and pilchards)

Grade 2-3 (peas and spaghetti)

Grade 4-5 (sugar and flour)

Grade 6-7 (pasta, soup, tea and coffee)

The intrinsic lesson behind this initiative is to instill in our learners that community outreach is an important part of our social responsibility. Coupled to this is the  teaching of caring for seniors in our community. It is our sincere desire that as a school community, all stakeholders support this initiative. Donated items may be forwarded to the respective teachers over the next 2 weeks. Should you feel a desire to offer any item which could benefit a senior please forward it to the school.

EARLY DISMISSAL

Our learners will be dismissed @ 13.30 on Wednesday the 31 July 2024 in order for the staff to formally bid Mrs J Solomon, the grade 3 teacher farewell after 8 years of service to the school. We wish her well on this new journey she  has embarked on.

WELCOME BACK

Our return to school on the 9 July 2024 has been marked by extraordinary weather patterns which disrupted the natural flow of week 1. It is regrettable that so much devastation has occurred across the Western Cape. It is moments like these that we take the opportunity if it is applicable and express gratitude for the positive position, we find ourselves in. In this vein I welcome all our learners to term 3 and wish all parents, learners and the staff a term which overflows with positivity as we enter term 3. I wish to encourage all our learners to be at school on a daily basis and not to be slack concerning the sacrifices which they need to make in order to have a successful academic term 3.

GRADE 6 SPELLING BEE

Our grade 6 learners engaged in a spelling bee on Wednesday 17/07/2024. The aim of the spelling bee is to improve the vocabulary of learners. It also exposes our learners to a cold-call where they are required to spell words out loud. This process also develops a strong character and resilience within our learners.

Gilly Southwood is storyteller, author, educator and facilitator. Gilly loves telling stories. Our grade 3`s had the opportunity to listen to her on Tuesday 1/07/2024. She took the learners on a journey through her storytelling evoking their mental picture.

END OF TERM 2 REFLECTION

Under extremely challenging economic forces the school has maintained a positive financial net balance, due prudent and well managed financial systems. Beautiful spaces have been created and maintained by our current ground staff. Bettie Daniels, our food gardener with the help of volunteers, has kept the food garden in absolute pristine shape . The learners display healthy interaction , regrettably there will always be a percentage of learners who display challenging behavior and such is the nature of working within a school environment. But as the previous generation has done for us, we do the same for the current generation but using firm mentorship to lead and guide the learners at school. Two of the current platforms being the the learner prefect body as well as the Dare to Dream project undertaken by Mr. C De Waal every Friday afternoon from 13:00 – 15:00. Teachers have worked tirelessly to ensure that all our learners do their best academically.

The following areas do require our vigilant attention:

The quality of the educational experience is affected internally as well as externally. Mediating  social and psychological welfare amongst learners so that each learner can reach their full potential. Addressing chronic absenteeism amongst learners. Ensuring a healthy school ethos is present amongst all stakeholders.

CARMEN STEVENS FOUNDATION CONTINUED FOOD DONATION TO LEARNERS

The management extends deep appreciation and gratitude to the Carmen Stevens Foundation. Since 2020, the foundation has supplied the school with regular food supplies over and above what the Feeding Scheme (NSNP) has provided the school. This enables the school to prepare breakfast and lunch to a larger portion of the learner body. On regular occasions since 2020 the foundation has also supplied identified learners with a food hamper.

FAREWELL

We bid farewell to Mr. R Solomon the class teacher of the grade 5 class who takes leave of Delta at the end of the term. We extend our gratitude and thanks for his unselfish dedication to the learners in his care. We wish him well in his future professional endeavors.

Mr B Asia the department head and class teacher  of grade 4a has been promoted as deputy principal at one of our neighbouring schools. We wish him well in this new endeavour.

ISSUING OF END OF TERM REPORTS

RETURN TO SCHOOL

Learner returned to school on 9 July 2024. Learners will be dismissed at 13:00 pm for the week and at 12.20 as per Friday dismissal.

LEARNER SAFETY OVER THE VACATION

Given the constant threat of crime we wish to make a special appeal to all our parents and learners  to ensure that our boys and girls remain safe during the vacation. Learners must inform their parents as to their whereabouts at all times. It may also be that many learners are home while parents go to work. Please speak to our learners about safety at home. Please take special care that no evil, harm or danger overcomes our children during the vacation period. Monitor their movements strictly and ensure that you, at all times, know where your child is.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

“ We create our lives one thought at a time. And sometimes, it comes down to changing a thought such as `Why did this happen to me?` into “There is a divine plan and there is a reason for this, and my choice is to create the most powerful reaction I can“ – Dee Wallace Stone.
