SURFWALK COLLECTING LIST
Learners have received the surf walk collecting list. I have set an ambitious target of 80 K as a target for the gross takings onto our balance sheet. Given the fact that we are in excess of 800 learners and if every child commits to collecting R100 and more this target can easily be achieved. Some of our learners have already started receiving their incentive awards for collecting R150. We encourage all families to get behind the surf walk and purpose towards achieving our target.

SGB 2024 – VALIDATION MEETINGS
What is a validation meeting ?
A validation meeting is a meeting where the School Electoral Officer (SEO) comes to the school where,he/she was placed to manage the SGB election process. On this particular day he/she checks whether the required number of valid nominations for parents who wish to serve on SGB has been placed in the nomination box.
What happens when 5 parents have been nominated at the 1st validation meeting to serve as the SGB reps and they have been validated by the SEO ?
If only 5 parents have been nominated by other parents , and the SEO has validated that the nominees are in fact parents/ guardians and eligible to serve on the SGB. The elections for SGB are then concluded. NO further process will be undertaken . The 5 parents would legally constitute the `new SGB`
What happens if less than 5 parents have been nominated at the first validation meeting to serve as the SGB reps and they have been validated by the SEO ?
If less than 5 parents have been nominated at the 1st validation meeting , the SEO will call a 2nd validation meeting to receive more nominations. If a total of 5 parent nominations cumulatively ( 1st and 2nd validation meeting) has been received in total the process is complete.NO further process will be undertaken . The 5 parents would legally constitute the `new SGB`
What happens if more than 5 parent nominations are received at the 1st validation meeting ?
If more than 5 parents have been nominated and the SEO has validated the nominations the process will revert to parent elections. In the case of Delta Primary School this would happen on the 14 March 2024 from 08.30 to 15.30.

It is once again the season for the Surfwalk. Our learners have all been issued a yellow collecting list during the course of the week.I have set an ambitious target of 80 K as a target for the gross takings onto our balance sheet. We have incentives for all the different categories within the collecting list
- The top collector will win a television set.
- The top collecting class with their teacher will receive a special prize.
- Each child who collects R150 will be given a slab of chocolate for their effort.
Our incentives for the learners will be improved as we are able to source more incentives for the learners. Parents who are able to assist the school with gifts are encouraged to make contact with the class teacher and obtain a sponsorship letter.

DELTA – GARDEN IN A BUCKET PROJECT LAUNCH

On Wednesday the 31 January 2024, Delta Primary in collaboration with Mhani Gingi , Food and Trees for Africa and the sponsors Shoprite. A contingency of 25 parents were the recipients of the tools to commence the garden in a bucket project. This initiative involves the distribution of resources and training of a group of parents. In our case pupils and parents of Delta Primary School. The resources and training are intended to support the recipients in producing food at their homes. Thus resources are intended to be used in their homes and will require effort and other resources, most importantly water, to succeed. The resources delivered included an information booklet, a watering can, a bucket, hand tools, seeds, and stickers. The training is designed to use the resources available (space, water, organic matter, shade, wind protection, people, etc.) to establish a garden that with ongoing energy, a willingness to learn and collaborate can become sustainable.
GOVERNING BODY ELECTIONS
Parental involvement in the governance of your child’s school is a Constitutional right afforded to all eligible parents under the South African Schools Act. Governance broadly involves, attending mandatory meetings, serving on the fundraising committee, serving on disciplinary structures, assisting the school to develop networks to the benefit of all the learners. I wish to encourage parents who believe that they can make a positive contribution to the school to avail themselves to serve on the School Governing Body. New governing Body elections are scheduled for 14 March 2024 of this year. An official notification will follow soonest.

On the evening of 29 January 2024, parents will have an opportunity to view the quality of the school uniform as the suppliers of uniforms will be in attendance. I wish to encourage all parents who still wish to purchase additional school dresses and uniform items to make the arrangements with the secretaries at school. Grade 1 learners are permitted to wear their grade R T-shirt and shorts.
SPORTS PREPARATIONS
Teachers will as of the new week take our athletes through their paces in preparation for the sports day. It is important therefore that learners have a white shorts and a sweater, as practicing in their school uniform is not permitted.
LEARNER ASSEMBLIES
Learners can attest that during the course of the week after an engagement with the Principal. All learners were encouraged to focus on their school work. It must be stated unequivocally that Delta Primary offers every learner the opportunity to excel academically. The school engenders a sense of pride in being part of the school, guided by a set of values that can easily be embraced by a fertile mind. The big question however remains, what do I bring to the school? This is a question which each learner, parent and staff member must ask themselves going into the future.
COLLECTING LISTS
Collecting lists will be forwarded to all learners during the course of next week. Let’s all do our very best to collect much needed financial resources for our school.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
