1. LEARNER ATTENDANCE – EVERYDAY COUNTS!

Dear Parents,
From 15 August 2025, you will receive a report on learner absence across the school. We have introduced this to address the high rate of absenteeism in many classes. Regular attendance is vital for your child’s promotion to the next grade and ensures their report card accurately reflects their achievements.

Unfortunately, some learners are kept from school to:

  • Go shopping with parents
  • Care for younger siblings
  • Take on adult responsibilities

These practices harm their future opportunities for success in further education and careers.
We appeal to all parents: Please ensure your child attends school for the full 5-day week.

2. NEATNESS AND DRESS CODE – WEAR OUR SCHOOL WITH PRIDE

Many learners look smart in their official school uniforms – well done to those families!
However, some learners are not following the dress code. Please review this extract from our Learner Code of Conduct:

Boys:

  • Grey short or long pants
  • White short or long-sleeved shirt
  • School tracksuit (winter only)
  • Regular black school shoes with grey socks only
  • Exceptions on casual days

Girls:

  • School dress, school tracksuit, or grey trousers
  • Regular black shoes with white ankle socks
  • Plain navy blue scarves (Muslim girls only) – worn in a dignified manner
  • Exceptions on casual days

Let’s work together to ensure all learners are neatly dressed and represent Delta Primary with pride.

3. FORMAL ASSESSMENT BE PREPARED ✏️

From 15 September 2025, our school will begin formal testing.
Before this date, learners will also receive tasks, assignments, and projects as part of their assessments.

✅ Parents, please check the grade assessment program to ensure your child completes all required work on time.

4. DATES TO DIARISE – TERM 3 (2025)

DRILLING CAMP EXPERIENCE

Over the weekend of 25–27 July 2025, four members of the Delta Marching Band attended a leadership and drilling camp at Princess Vlei Eco Park. The camp focused not only on marching drills but also on developing leadership qualities and decision-making skills.

While the experience was physically demanding, feedback from both the girls and staff highlighted how enriching and worthwhile the camp was.

A special word of thanks to Mr. Roy Prinsloo, Chairperson of the Cape Marching Band Association, and Mrs. Pillay, one of our dedicated Delta parents, who graciously served as house mother throughout the weekend.

DELTA LEARNERS REPRESENT ON CCFM RADIO

On 4 July, Delta Primary learners proudly represented our school on CCFM Radio Station. The learners spoke about challenges faced in their communities and how involvement in the marching band has positively transformed their lives. We are proud of their voices and the powerful message they shared.

CONGRATULATIONS

Our very own Liam Bonkolo in learner in grade 7 , did us proud over the weekend as he competed in surfing competition in Victoria Bay. Well done Liam

LEARNER ABSENTEEISM – A MAJOR BARRIER TO LEARNING

Dear Parents, in line with our academic improvement efforts, we have reviewed learner attendance data. Unfortunately, this review revealed concerning patterns—a significant number of learners across both foundation and senior phases have accumulated 20 or more days of absence since Term 1.

This is alarming. It creates a divide between learners who regularly attend school and those who don’t—despite both groups having access to the same quality education. Unsurprisingly, those with high absenteeism are at serious risk of falling behind academically.

We urge all parents to reflect on the long-term consequences of frequent absenteeism and to take proactive steps to support consistent school attendance.

ACADEMIC IMPROVEMENT PLANS

We are committed to ensuring that all learners achieve their academic potential. As part of our strategy, we have implemented the following:

  • Participation in the MCO (Maths Online) Programme
  • Review of Term 2 Formal Assessments
  • Tracking Individual Learner Progress
  • Implementation of Academic Improvement Plans at Grade & Class Levels
  • Friday: Maths & Language Test Days

These initiatives reflect our dedication to academic excellence. However, high absenteeism will unfortunately undermine all our efforts.
