EXAMINATION PREPARATIONS

This is a gentle reminder to all our parents that the school is entering into the formal assessment period (examinations) as of 24 May 2024 as per examination roster. As in previous communications, we cannot emphasise the importance of the June examination especially for the current grade 7 learners. All our learners must focus their attention on studying diligently and laying off the activities that cause immense distraction i.e cell phones, television and dawdling around. Parents play a crucial role in this regard as you hold the levers of influence within the home. Let’s also ensure that our children are at school on a daily basis.

Learners will be dismissed at 1pm as of the 24 May – 13 June 2024 and @ 11.00 am on the 14 June, the last day of the term. All term 2 reports will be issued on the 14 June 2024

SYMPTOMS OF STOMACH BUG

Over the past few days, many learners were required to leave the school early due to a `stomach bug`. The intention of sharing this information is not to create fear but to request all parents to monitor their children’s health before sending their child to school.

It is important that when a child has a serious stomach with an accompanying headache, that parents retain the child at home until the symptoms have subsided. It is always ill-advised to send a child to school who has a headache after the child has indicated this to you as the parent.

As parents, we also know our children and when they intend to manipulate the situation , so let’s be on our guard for this as well.

PARENT TEACHER ONE-ON-ONE SESSIONS

It was a wonderful sight to see parents making contact with the relevant teachers to discuss the business of education. To parents who for unforeseen circumstances could not make contact with the respective teachers. Let’s make contact with the teacher before the end of the term.

ANTI BULLYING CAMPAIGN

We are pleased to report that all our senior learners were part of an anti bullying programme on Wednesday the 8 May 2024. The programme was hosted by FCS Wynberg. Bullying causes an unnecessary tense atmosphere at school and the perpetrators must therefore be made aware that their actions have consequences. `Captain Bully Buster` took the learners through the programme and the message was well received by all in attendance . each learner was issued with a `constable bully buster badge`

CHANGING LIVES RESTORING HOPE – GIRL CHILD PROGRAMME

Over the course of this week and next week. The girl child at Delta Primary will be embarking on an intervention programme to empower parents as well as their girl child. One of the sessions I observed was the group of girls acting out the outcome of receiving bad information via passing on a message. It is our hope that the empowerment programme will lead to a girl who is self-confident amidst the contextual challenges they face on a daily basis.

EXAMINATION ROSTER FOR INTERSEN PHASE

By the time you read Newsletter No 14 of 2024, all learners in grade 4-7 would have received a copy of the examination roster. Our examinations are scheduled to commence on the 27 May 2024  and shall be concluded on the 3 June 2024. It is extremely important that all learners make the necessary sacrifice and prepare well for the forthcoming examinations. As of the 27 May 2024, all learners will be dismissed at 13:00. We once again appeal to all parents and transport providers to ensure that all necessary arrangements are made to ensure that all learners are collected within 10 minutes after the end of the day.You are requested to please monitor the following:

  • Learners must study for the examination if they wish to experience a positive outcome after the examination.
  • Learners must get to bed early to ensure that they are alert during the examination.
  • Learners must have a good breakfast and lunch pack to fuel them for the day.
  • Learners must have writing equipment for the day.
  • Learners must reduce time spent on cell phones and electronic devices in order to focus while studying.

Parents, we have a role to play in this regard. We are confident that you will take all the necessary actions in this regard.

On Friday our school engaged in book character day in order to promote the culture of reading amongst all our learners. Enclosed some wonderful pictures of the day.

LEARNER ATTENDANCE

Daily learner attendance in general must be addressed by all concerned. We are deeply concerned when the data reflects increasing poor attendance in all our classes across the cohorts. We are appealing to all parents to ensure that our children are at school every single day without fail, barring ill health or due to special circumstances. During the general assembly this barrier to learning was elucidated to all in attendance. Let’s encourage our learners to be a school.

WHITAKER FOUNDATION

The Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative (WPDI) is a non-governmental organisation with an international scope and reach, founded by Forest Whitaker in 2012. WPDI develops an array of peacebuilding programs, initiatives, and campaigns to foster peace and reconciliation in disadvantaged and fragile communities in the different regions of the world. The organisation has partnered with Delta Primary with the intention to take our prefects through a conflict resolution programme. The envisioned goal is a learner who is able to leverage off the skills learnt to improve their decision making ability.

GRADE 6 OUTING TO THE AQUARIUM

Our learners thoroughly enjoyed themselves at the aquarium. We have received a good review as our boys and girls were good ambassadors for Delta Primary.

SUPPORTING REGULAR LEARNER ATTENDANCE

I take this opportunity to highlight the urgent need to ensure that all our learners are at school on a daily basis. Our learners can ill-afford to miss a single day and be tardy when it comes to school attendance. In this regard all parents must cause their children to make their way to school and be prepared to get stuck into their academic curriculum. Term 2 is a term with many planned days of school closure to accommodate cultural as well as social downtime. Lets not add extra days in the pursuit of relaxation at the expense of regular school attendance.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

The school uniform remains the pride of the school. It creates a sense of belonging and gives us a sense of pride. I wish to encourage all our parents to purchase the official uniform of the school at our school or place an order online via the schools online store. Uniforms may also be purchased from Yunisha Fashions in Grassy Park. The school secretary may be contacted for enquiries related to the school uniform. ONLY THE OFFICIAL SCHOOL DRESS AND TRACKSUIT shall be acknowledged as proper uniform. Past variations of the school uniform will unfortunately not be regarded as acceptable as this creates a disparate implementation of the affordable uniform we have implemented over several years. Based on the data and pricing Delta Primary`s uniform is still the most affordable across schools in our area. Parents must refer to the school code of conduct to verify that the uniform is correct for the appropriate season.

LEARNER SAFETY

We wish to make a special appeal to all our learners and parents to ensure that our boys and girls remain safe during the vacation. Learners must inform their parents and guardians as to their whereabouts at all times. Learners making their way to the beach or near water activities are also reminded to take extra precautions as accidents around water happen so quickly.

END OF TERM THOUGHTS

Term 1 has been a busy term with highlights galore. Our boys and girls have conducted themselves in the majority exceptionally well.

Regrettably some learners need to re-think their current trends and actions when interacting with other learners. This is our call to parents: When you are alerted that a discipline problem is rearing its head, deal with the matter. The school will assist in this regard.

A huge thank you to the loyal parents, who understand the pluralism and complexity of school life and are able to, regardless of perceptions, support the school. We thank you greatly. Wishing all parents and learners well during the Easter tide. Parents and learners who are fasting all of the best to you as well.

I wish to express my sincere gratitude on behalf of the staff and all our learners. Every learner enjoyed the day and returned safely after the event. INTER HOUSE SPORTS DAY 2024

On Wednesday the 28 February 2024 we concluded the inter house athletics competition. As in previous years the day was an enormous success at every level. The organisation and execution of all logistical plans was clearly evident on the day. Our learners made us extremely proud with their grit and determination despite their lack of physical prowess and a few top performers were clearly identified for future nurturing. In this regard all our teachers, support staff, Johnson security, the paramedic, SOLO FMC are worthy of thanks and appreciation. On this day our boys and girls have once again proven that when they purpose their mind and heart they can be quite entertaining and extremely well-disciplined. For that I thank you all boys and girls. Congratulations to the winning Red house on their achievement !

SURFWALK COLLECTING LIST 2024

We are encouraging all our boys and girls to continue to diligently seek sponsors for this major fundraising event of term 1. We have set a target of  80 K, which is well within the reach of the collective learner body based on our enrolment numbers of 847 learners collectively. The forwarding of the collecting lists has been at a snails pace.  The following incentives are available for all learners

  • A minimum of R100 – secures the learners seat on the bus. Families of more than 1 child are given a reduced rate for multiple siblings at the school.
  • A minimum collection of R150 – secures the learners on the bus, with a slab of chocolate

UPDATED CONTACT DETAILS – URGENT REQUEST

We are appealing to all our parents to ensure that their contact details are updated when it is required. In instances where your cell no has changed, please be so kind as to inform the teacher so that our records may be updated accordingly. We are challenged in cases of emergency when learners take ill as we often cannot contact parents to inform them via a telephone call. To parents who have updated their details we say thank you!

ADMISSIONS 2024

This is a gentle reminder to all parents that admissions for 2024 open on the 11 of March 2024. We are therefore encouraging parents who wish to enrol their learners in grade 1 and 8  for 2024 to ensure that they register online as soon as the admission window opens for applications.

THE IMPORTANCE OF READING

It cannot be aerated enough, the importance of our learners to  read on a regular basis. We have observed many learners in all grades struggling with very basic reading skills. In most of the cases the learning barrier can be changed with consistent reading in class and at home. We therefore wish to implore all our boys and girls as well as our parents to encourage every child to read every single day ( Monday to Friday).

It is a life skill that if left unattended will come back to harm the academic development of any child. Parents, please speak about this in your family time.
